Charitable Registrations

In Canada, only charitable organizations registered by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) are allowed to issue valid donation receipts to donors. The process of creating a registered charity in Ontario is a two-step process:
  1. A corporation without share capital must be incorporated with the Government of Ontario; and
  2. An application for registration must be submitted to CRA.
The Corporation without share capital must contain the charitable objects of the corporation, as well as special corporate law provisions. You can find more information on incorporating a charitable organization from the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General. You can find more information on the application for registration from the CRA.
